Shake That Baby Bootie

Shake That Baby Bootie

Alright everybody it’s about that time. Time for me to channel my inner Ryan Seacrest and count down the hits guaranteed to get those baby booties shaking! Dear god I hope I don’t really have an inner Ryan Seacrest, lol. But if I did, I’d put together a list of the 100 best dance songs that get kids moving and count it down from 100-1. OMG I do have an inner Ryan Seacrest, because that’s pretty much what this blog is all about. :(

At our studio we have come to know one undeniable truth about the human race. Every single one of us was born to dance. You can’t deny it. Get yourself a baby, preferably yours (or at least one acquired with permission) and crank some dance music. That tyke will immediately start to shake their groove thang. They’re not worried about looking foolish, or that they’ve never had dance lessons. Little ones just dance because it feels good.

Here’s an awesome video of babies dancing featuring #8 from our playlist.

So when we’re photographing a smash cake session and it’s time to bring the energy level up, dance music is always our go-to. Now at this point someone is thinking why dance music? Why not music designed for specifically kids? Well let me tell you why! I spent most of 2018 listening to Baby Shark 6 times a shoot 3-4 days a week for the entire year and I am just over it, that’s why. I didn’t need kids music, I just needed the right kind of music in general. When I realized that, it truly was a facepalm situation. I could have saved myself from hundreds of hours of….

Baby shark doo doo, doo doo, doo doo
Baby shark doo doo, doo doo, doo doo
Baby shark doo doo, doo doo, doo doo
Baby shark.

So to save you guys from the lobotomizing effects of super happy people singing “doo doo, doo doo, doo doo”. I put together a list of songs that NOT ONLY make babies dance but songs that won’t drive you bonkers in the process. These are actual songs from my computer’s playlist and I defy you to listen to them and not do a little rump shaking.

So without further delay, here are 10 songs that will keep your smash cake babies dancing all session long.

Each song title is a link to amazon.com so you can download them if you don’t already have them in your playlist.

  1. Feel It Still - Portugal The Man

  2. Shake It Off - Taylor Swift

  3. Blurred Lines - Robin Thicke

  4. Ice Ice Baby - Vanilla Ice

  5. Happy - Pharrell Williams

  6. Fantastic Voyage - Coolio

  7. Cha Cha Slide - DJ Casper

  8. Here Comes The Hotstepper - Ini Kamoze

  9. What Is Love - Haddaway

  10. Hey Ya - Outkast

All right you guys, that’s just the tip of the rump shaking iceberg. Those are 10 songs in no particular order that we actually use here at our studio to make our smash cake clients bust a move. If you guys have any songs that you use to make your babies dance and smile we’d love it if you’d post them in the comment section. I have a feeling that with your lists and mine we can come up with the ultimate baby dance mix tape and save ourselves from the dreaded Baby Shark!

Sing it out with me…

Baby shark doo doo, doo doo, doo doo
Baby shark doo doo, doo doo, doo doo
Baby shark doo doo, doo doo, doo doo
Baby shark.

Thanks for reading AND listening,

Daniel Troutman
